Choosing Your Resistance Bands

The short answer: Choose the PowerTube™ Pro Set if you are new to resistance training, in rehab, or training for general fitness up to 150 lbs (70 kg). Choose the Ultra Set for intermediate training up to 280 lbs (130 kg). Choose the Mega Set if you are an experienced lifter who needs gym-equivalent resistance up to 450 lbs (205 kg).

HomeProGym bands come in three configurations. All three sets use the same premium stackable tube bands - the difference is how many bands are included and therefore how much total resistance you can reach.

Each set is a complete system. You do not need to upgrade to train effectively. The Pro Set alone covers hundreds of exercises across every major muscle group. The Ultra and Mega sets add resistance ceiling for those who need heavier loads to continue progressing.

The Pro Set includes the 5 foundational bands: Ultra Light (10 lbs), Light (20 lbs), Medium (30 lbs), Heavy (40 lbs), and Extreme (50 lbs). Stacked together they deliver up to 150 lbs across 15 unique resistance settings.

  • New to resistance training or returning after a long break
  • Recovering from injury and following a physiotherapy program
  • Training for general health, flexibility, and bodyweight-plus resistance
  • Seniors (60+) looking for joint-friendly strength training at home
  • Anyone whose primary goals are toning, endurance, or rehab rather than maximum load
  • Frequent travellers who need a portable, lightweight setup

The Pro Set gives you enough range to train every muscle group from your first session through to solid intermediate-level strength. The 10 lb Ultra Light band is genuinely useful for shoulder rehab, warm-ups, and lighter isolation work. The 50 lb Extreme band, used alone, is demanding for most people.

Stacked at 150 lbs, the Pro Set is equivalent to a heavy dumbbell row or a loaded leg press for most users at this level. You will not outgrow it quickly. When you do, you can add individual bands to upgrade rather than replacing the whole set.

The Ultra Set adds the Ultra (60 lbs) and Ultra Plus (70 lbs) bands to the full Pro Set range. Stacked, you reach 280 lbs across 28 resistance settings - enough for serious compound movements and muscle-building programs.

  • Intermediate lifters who have been training consistently for 6 months or more
  • Former gym members wanting a genuine home gym replacement for most movements
  • People aged 35-55 doing progressive strength training for hypertrophy
  • Anyone who has outgrown beginner resistance ranges and needs heavier loads for rows, chest press, squats, and deadlifts
  • Athletes supplementing their main sport with resistance band conditioning
  • People training for body composition change who need enough load to drive real muscle stimulus
Get the Ultra Set →

At 280 lbs stacked, the Ultra Set covers the resistance range most intermediate training programs require. Research consistently shows that hypertrophy occurs across a wide repetition range, provided the load is sufficient to produce close-to-failure sets. The Ultra Set delivers that stimulus for the majority of exercises.

Training insight: A 2019 meta-analysis published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that elastic resistance training produces similar strength and hypertrophy gains to conventional weight training when resistance is matched and progression is applied. The principle holds - what matters is having enough resistance to challenge the muscle. Source: Lopes et al. (2019), Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research

The Mega Set is the complete 9-band system. The Mega (80 lbs) and Mega Plus (90 lbs) bands are added to the Ultra Set range, reaching a maximum of 450 lbs across 45 unique resistance levels from 10 to 450 lbs in 10 lb increments.

  • Experienced lifters who have been training for several years and need heavy loads for compound movements
  • Anyone wanting the closest possible home gym equivalent to a full cable and dumbbell rack
  • Strength and conditioning athletes requiring loaded resistance for squats, Romanian deadlifts, bent-over rows, and pressing movements
  • Personal trainers and coaches who need a full resistance range for varied client programming
  • People who want to buy once and never need to upgrade again
  • Anyone whose legs, back, or chest require more than 280 lbs to reach a challenging working set

At 450 lbs, the Mega Set matches or exceeds what most people will ever lift on a cable machine. The 45 unique resistance levels give you 10 lb increments across the entire range - tighter progression spacing than most commercial gyms offer on their plate-loaded machines.

Which Set Is Right for You?

Start with the Pro Set if:

  • You are new to structured resistance training
  • Your goal is health maintenance, rehab, or staying active rather than maximum strength
  • Budget is a factor and you want to start lean and upgrade later

Start with the Ultra Set if:

  • You have been training consistently and know you will push past beginner loads quickly
  • You want to replace a gym membership and cover most workouts without limitation
  • Your primary goal is muscle building or body composition change

Start with the Mega Set if:

  • You are an experienced lifter who knows exactly how much resistance your body needs
  • You want the full system and do not want to think about upgrading
  • You train large muscle groups with heavy compound movements

Complete the System: Key Accessories

Every set includes the core accessories - door anchor, handles, carabiners, ankle straps, and workout guide. Three additional accessories are worth knowing about before you buy.

Resistance Bar - The Biggest Upgrade to Your Set

The Resistance Bar converts your band set from a cable-style training system into a full barbell and landmine system. Clip your bands onto the bar's central attachment point and perform bilateral movements: squats, Romanian deadlifts, bent-over rows, overhead press, and chest press. For anyone whose primary goal is strength training or a gym replacement, the Resistance Bar is the single most impactful add-on. Available as a bundle with all three sets.

Ultra Door Anchor

A reinforced, multi-point anchor designed for heavier stacked loads. Important if you are regularly training with 200 lbs or more on a single anchor point. Reduces wear and provides a more secure attachment over time. Recommended for Ultra Set and Mega Set users training at high resistance.

Tricep Rope

Attaches via the standard carabiner system and replicates the cable machine tricep pushdown. Also works for bicep hammer curls, face pulls, and overhead tricep extensions - a small addition that meaningfully expands your upper arm and shoulder exercise variety.

Accessory Best For Recommended With
Resistance Bar Compound bilateral movements - squats, deadlifts, rows, press All sets
Ultra Door Anchor Heavy stacked loads requiring reinforced anchor point Ultra Mega
Tricep Rope Tricep pushdowns, face pulls, hammer curls, overhead extensions All sets

Not Sure? Start with the Ultra Set + Resistance Bar

If you are genuinely unsure, the Ultra Set w/Bar is the safest starting point. It covers the full beginner range and extends into serious intermediate and advanced training. Most customers who start with the Pro Set and later want more resistance simply wish they had started with the Ultra or Mega.

All three sets include the same accessories and come with 90 days of free Supafit Pro access for guided workouts. The bands carry a lifetime warranty. You are not taking a risk on any tier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which resistance band set should a beginner buy?
Beginners should start with the Pro Set (5 bands, stacks to 150 lbs / 70 kg). It covers the full beginner-to-intermediate resistance range across every major muscle group and includes enough bands to progressively overload as strength improves. Individual bands can be added later to upgrade without replacing the set.
Can resistance bands replace gym weights?
Yes. The HomeProGym Mega Set stacks to 450 lbs (205 kg) across 45 unique resistance levels, making it a genuine alternative to a full dumbbell and cable rack. Studies show resistance bands produce comparable muscle activation to free weights when resistance is matched and progressive overload is applied consistently.
What is the difference between the Pro Set, Ultra Set, and Mega Set?
The Pro Set includes 5 bands (10 to 50 lbs per band, stacks to 150 lbs). The Ultra Set includes 7 bands (10 to 70 lbs per band, stacks to 280 lbs). The Mega Set includes all 9 bands (10 to 90 lbs per band, stacks to 450 lbs). All sets use the same band quality and accessories. The difference is resistance ceiling and number of unique levels.
How much resistance do I need for muscle building?
Effective hypertrophy training typically requires loads at 60-85% of your one-rep max. For most movements this falls between 50 and 200 lbs depending on the muscle group. The Ultra Set (up to 280 lbs) or Mega Set (up to 450 lbs) covers this range for all major compound and isolation exercises.
Are resistance bands good for rehabilitation?
Yes. Resistance bands are widely used in physical therapy because they provide progressive, low-impact resistance that is gentler on joints than free weights. The Pro Set's range (10 to 150 lbs) is ideal for rehab progressions from light therapeutic work through to full-strength recovery training.
Can I upgrade from the Pro Set to the Mega Set later?
Yes. All HPG sets use the same band design and D-ring connector system. You can purchase additional bands individually to upgrade. Each higher set adds bands in sequence with no duplicates, so you are not buying anything you already own.
